Halloween Horror Movies
Here is a list of films we have reviewed that either take place during the Halloween holiday or are otherwise somehow appropriate viewing material for the Halloween season. Maybe they involve classic monsters or genre mashups, or invoke the spirit of Halloween in a particularly solid way. Or, as Craig often likes to say, “This is great to have playing in the background during a Halloween party when you’re having a few beers with your buddies.”

Fresh off the heels of two commercially successful films starring Michael Meyers, Team John Carpenter took a left turn and decided the Halloween series would be better as an annual holiday-themed horror anthology. And maybe it would have been, had they not led the charge with this turkey.

Haunt
At the same time they were writing the soon-to-be-hit-film, A Quiet Place, writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods were toiling away on this nasty thriller. Evocative of movies like Hostel and Saw, it’s no surprise that Eli Roth decided to nurture and produce Haunt. We’re looking forward to more horror in the future from this…

Hell House LLC
For a good example of how filmmakers can do little with nothing, this low-key horror film seems to push all the right buttons to pull you in and keep ahold of you until the surprise ending. Give this week’s episode a listen for all the details, but we highly recommend you watch the movie first.

Hellbent
Despite being billed as “the first gay slasher film,” not many people have heard of this 2004 micro-budget indie movie. It did not receive a wide release, but it’s now available for streaming online, 14 years later, and we both concluded that it is definitely worth a watch. Listen here for our analysis

And it’s timely too, as the long awaited sequel to Hocus Pocus just came out this month.
